Message from Pets In Need Society We've let our companion animals down. They've been mistreated, neglected, overbred, dumped at pounds or shelters, abandoned to the outdoors, or left behind on moving day. This is a travesty of immense proportions and one that requires immediate change. Pets are lifetime commitments, not disposable commodities. There is a serious pet "overpopulation" crisis, a tragedy that is preventable. There's no need to buy from a breeder, broker, or pet store while many are homeless or on Death Row at overcrowded facilities. Pets In Need Society was incorporated as a charitable organization in 1968 and is committed to saving lives by raising awareness as to the importance of spay/neuter programs and by providing funding to those groups or individuals in need of help. We have been an active voice in our community and through our education and fundraising initiatives have made a difference in the lives of many a cat and dog, and more recently, rabbits. In 2006, Pets In Need Society paid for the sterilization of 240 cats, dogs, and rabbits. In addition, we were able to provide financial assistance for 216 other neglected, sick, homeless, rescued, and injured animals. Veterinary care included problems big and small, with everything from fractured or broken bones, abscesses, dental work, and blood panels to help with diagnosis and treatment of a problem. Pets in Need was again busy in 2007, funding 261 animal spays and neuters in our commitment to help with pet population control. We also helped pay the vet bills for just over 400 animals requiring medical attention. We are most grateful for the network of caring people and financial support that makes it possible for us to continue our work of helping our valued animal friends. It's truly worth it.
